We care about the quality of food intake, exercise, meditation etc as relevant factors in maintaining good health.

But one human consume 1 million breaths of air every month without knowing how the air quality affects our bodies, mind and comfort. An average adult, when resting, inhales and exhales about 7 or 8 liters of air per minute. That totals about 11,000 liters of air per day.

Inhaled air is about 20-percent oxygen. Exhaled air is about 15-percent oxygen. Therefore, about 5-percent of breathed air is consumed in each breath. That air is converted to carbon dioxide. So, as far as how much air is actually used, human beings take in about 550 liters of pure oxygen per day. A person who is exercising uses a lot more oxygen than that.

According to WHO, 92% of the world’s population is exposed to harmful levels of air pollution. The indoors air quality we breathe is 2 to 5 times worse than outdoors.

Pollution is a silent killer.

The cause of pollution is more to do with our selfishness than anything else. Just as one example, we don’t care for flora & fauna, without realising that we humans depend upon trees for our existence on the earth. A mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year. A 100-foot tree, 18 inches diameter at its base, produces 6,000 pounds of oxygen. On the average, one tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen each year. Two mature trees can provide enough oxygen for a family of four.
